About the EaP Think Tank Forum 2018

The Experts for Security and Global Affairs Association (ESGA) is honoured to announce that the Eastern Partnership Think Tank Forum 2018 edition will be held on November 14th – November 16th în Bucharest, Romania.

The Forum will offer the unique opportunity to further discuss and review the proposed draft Policy Recommendations for the EaP countries with 25 top notch experts from both EaP and EU countries aiming at bridging the local, regional and European perspectives in addressing the current challenges and future perspectives of the EU’s Eastern Partnership policy.

The Bucharest edition hosted by ESGA is the second one, the first edition of the EaP Think Tank Forum being held in Chișinău în September 22nd, 2017 by the Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE), the Georgian Institute for Strategic Studies (GISS) and New Europe Center (former Institute of World Policy (IWP)), implemented in cooperation with the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum (EaP CSF), funded by the EU and National Endowment for Democracy (NED) from the EaP CSF re-Granting Scheme 2017 and co-financed by Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS).

Prior to the this year’s edition, a group of well-known experts will prepare a comprehensive policy paper of the EaP security sector that will include a set of recommendations to feed in the debates on the implementation of the EU Global Security Strategy in the context of the EaP 2020 deliverables and agenda for the next term of the European Commission (2020-2024). The set of recommendations will be further discussed within the EaP CSF National Platforms and amended during the workshop. The final version of the policy paper will be promoted to the EaP and EU governments. Moreover, given the positive example of the 2017 advocacy visit to Brussels to promote the Policy Recommendations of the EaP TTF, the project partners will aim to organise an advocacy visit to Brussels (OCT-NOV 2018) for which co-funding will be secured by the project partners

The overall aim of the project is to contribute to the strengthening of the policy and advocacy capacities of EaP CSF network of think-tanks in order to propose a comprehensive vision (national and regional) over the EaP security agenda in the light of the EaP 2020 deliverables.

Thus, the objectives of the EaPTTF2018 edition are the following:

  1. Strengthening the EaP experts’ regional perspective on security.
  2. Contributing to a more effective internal policy-making process within the EaP countries. Contributing to the advocacy efforts of the think-tank and CSOs community during the preparation of the agenda for the new European Commission.
  3. Enhancing the qualitative knowledge and the dialogue on the security sector of the Eastern Partnership (EaP). Offering recommendations which will contribute to EU agenda-setting efforts for the EaP region.

Through this action the Experts for Security and Global Affairs (ESGA), in partnership with the Institute for European Policies and Reforms (IPRE), the Georgian Institute for Strategic Studies (GISS) and New Europe Center (former Institute of World Policy (IWP)), aims to build on the results of the first EaP Think Tank Forum held in 2017 and further develop the EaP CSF network of think-tanks in order to propose a comprehensive vision (national and regional) over the security sector of the Eastern Partnership in the light of the 2020 deliverables.

Implementation period of the Project is between 01 June 2018 and 30 November 2018.

The total eligible cost of the Project is estimated at EUR 21,840.

EaP CSF Secretariat undertakes to finance 90% of the cost of the Project, i.e. EUR 19,656.
